Aupuni Iwi'ula recipient of the Dr. Barbara Ann Teer Spirit Award

December 17, 2008, Harlem, New York City

The National Black Theatre presented Aupuni Iwi’ula with the inaugural Barbara Ann Teer Spirit Award at its Annual December 17th Orisha Celebration. The award honored Aupuni for establishing the Harlem Halau and for sharing the spiritual traditions of Hawaii with the Harlem community.

The awards dinner commemorated the National Black Theatre for its four decades as a leading cultural institution in Harlem and paid tribute to its enduring commitment to honor, tradition and service. Harlem Halau student, Sherry Bronfman (standing right of Aupuni), received the inaugural Frederica Lila Teer Award for her philanthropic and community service efforts.
