LOMILOMI
omilomi is an ancient healing art. Lomilomi means to make smaller and smaller and slowly breaking up. The kuleana of this healing art is held closely by the Kahuna Lomilomi. The Kahuna Lomilomi is a master of healing the body through the creation of intense energy by pule and intention. The power of the lomi is in the pule and the power that can be created to heal using lomilomi as the modality is awesome.
Today there are very few Kahuna Lomilomi and many Kanaka Lomilomi. There are two different kinds of Hawaiian Bodywork, one, which is traditional, and the other more pervasive and contemporary. The contemporary one is easily distinguished from the traditional. It requires a table and a pule is optional. To say that Lomilomi is massage is patently incorrect. It is trying to make a Hawaiian Healing Art a Western derivative. It is not. Lomilomi is an ancient Hawaiian healing art that in its truest form does not resemble anything Western or Eastern. Traditional Lomilomi is pure Hawaiian.
At Halau O Limaloa we practice and perfect Iwi'ula Style Lomilomi. This style utilizes two distinctly different forms of lomilomi, lomi kino and lomi kahea. This style is used like in the old days on humans, animals, places and things. His Tutu wahine was well known for her lomilomi including doing Kahea Lomilomi on animals. People would come from all over to seek her help with their animals. Kahuna Lomilomi Aupuni Iwi'ula teaches most of his haumana how to lomi people, but has selected one to lomi animals. Dr. Bart 'Pilialoha' Iaia, a licensed veterinarian in the State of Washington is the only Lomi Practitioner who has been granted permission to lomi animals. As you can see at Halau O Limaloa we do not do what is trendy. We do that which we were taught in the old Hawaiian Style using old traditional healing modalities.
