LAUHALA AND PU'UKOHOLA
his journey workshop is an amazing experience of Hawaiian culture unmatched by any other event in the Hawaiian Islands. You will learn the old Hawaiian Art of Lauhala. Our organization has the only complete Native Hawaiian Center of Health. For example, our halau teaches Lomilomi. Our Lomi is conducted not on a table but on the floor or better yet on the 'aina. Old style Lomi never used a table. Tables were brought in with the Westerners. Our Lomi Practitioners are learning how to weave our own mats. This Journey Workshop you will be harvesting, cleaning and preparing the lauhala to weave. You will also learn to repair lauhala mats and make a lauhala bracelet and/or fan. The Haumana of Halau O Limaloa has been selected as the Caretakers of the Puhala and the Lauhala Mats of Pu'uhonua O Honaunau. We also use kukui nut oil grown and packaged in Hawai'i in our Lomi. The kukui nut oil is a very sacred oil used in Hawaiian healing modalities. The Kahuna know how strong the Hawaiian la'au are, most people do not know their strength.
During the journey workshop, we travel to taken in great Hawaiian culture events, like the presentation at Pu'ukohola. The weekend is spent at the Heiau of Pu'ukohola. The pageantry that is presented there is unmatched in all of Hawai'i. The re-creation of Kamehameha's Heiau of Conquering the Islands to one of Unity is quite powerful. The Mana during this presentation is exceptional. On the other hand, we may go to the Investiture of the Aloha Week court at the edge of the volcano, Halema'uma'u. Another exquisite event never to miss.
